On October 8th and 9th, An Áit Eile will gather some of Galway’s most exciting, talented and hardworking grassroots cultural groups under one roof (well, two roofs) for a weekend of music, art, design, film, gaming, wellness, food, technology, performance and local craft.
This two day cultural weekender will be called What Now?
We’re taking over Áras Na nGael and the Galway Arts Centre to create something brand new for Galway: a Cultural Weekender that celebrates this city’s home-grown creative communities and forges new ways of moving into the future, together.
As part of the weekend we will be hosting an exhibition from Engage Arts Studios.
ABOUT ENGAGE ART STUDIOS
Engage Art Studios is an artist-run studio space in Galway city centre. Founded in 2004, Engage supports contemporary artists in a professional environment. Engage Art Studios provides an atmosphere of creativity, production, inspiration and opportunity for working artists in the Galway area. The unique studio space is on the top floors of the old Cathedral Building on the corner of Middle and Abbeygate Streets. There are 13 private studios and a fully equipped office and digital suite.
Engage offers a a part-time Orbital membership and a full-time Studio membership. Studios are equipped with Wireless Internet, Clean-up sinks, Ventilation, Storage, High ceilings, and both Natural (windows and sky lights) and artificial lighting (fluorescent and halogen). Part-time Orbital membership is a non-studio arrangement that allows for the use of their digital lab, office, equipment for checkout, a profile on the Engage website, inclusion in open studios events, curator’s visits and participation in off-site shows and curated events. Full-time Studio members enjoy everything Orbital members do, but also have 24 hour access to a private studio.
Artists can apply for Studio Membership by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with up to 10 medium sized images, a current CV and letter of intent. Engage advertises annually for submissions from professional working artists. A peer-based selection committee will review the applications. Due to high demand for studio spaces in Galway City, there is often a waiting list to join Engage Art Studios.
